  1. And best wishes to you too; thanks for all your hard and productive work on Climate Etc.

  2. Merry Christmas! Enjoy your family and friends. Us empty nesters have 18 here today. Hence, my typing Christmas greetings to Dr. Curry. I do think I’m likely to be found out though so, off to the masses…

  3. Judith — and all best of the season to you and success with all your endeavors and hopes and dreams in the new year.

Keep up the good work, be well, take care.

  7. Trump will slap a tariff on imports from the North Pole and replace those foreign elf jobs with American elves. As for Santa, Trump’s beefed up immigration policy will stop him at the border.

    • Jim D ==> Santa Claus is an native-born American citizen — thus waved through the border with a smile. He lives, apparently, at the North Pole to protect American interests there when not busy making children smile at Christmas time. His reindeer keep down the Arctic brush and grass, preventing loss of albedo according to the most recent science.

[PS: Dragging Santa into American two-party politics is in bad taste.]

    • Curious George

Jim, Merry Christmas to you. We are still allowed to say Merry Christmas, even though it may offend heathens or others among us. But Happy Holidays is winning!

    • How do you know the nationality of elves Jim?

Everyone close your eyes while I let Jim in on the secret.

Jim, there is no Santa Claus or flying reindeer. The two reindeer we saw at SF Museum of Science yesterday could have confirmed that, if they had not been sleeping.

  8. Merry Christmas, Judy.

    Thanks for all you do.

  9. Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous Trumpocene to you and all.

  10. Best wishes for the Xmas Season and the New Year, and many thanks for your efforts in keeping us well informed – much appreciated!

  11. A Merry Xmas and a Happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year to one and all.

PS. I’m told its snowing in the Sahara at the moment.
PPS. How do you fit a snow plough to a camel?

  12. Merry Christmas to Judith and everyone else who makes this site a very informative and enjoyable read.

  13. Merry Christmas to Judith and the denizens.

Father Christmas may be a bit late getting to you guys in the States as following Brexit we here in the UK need to have a serious discussion with him about making a trade pact with the north Pole federated territories

  14. Sure hope Santa makes it…..I’ve asked him for some stone tablets carved to show difinitive values for ECS and a few other controversial parameters.
Holiday Cheer to all, and thanks, Dr. Curry, for all your hard work!!

  15. Merry Christmas to you and your family Judy!

  16. I am an adherent to a very small religious sect.

    I am a Styrofoamian.

We (actually it’s just me) believe that humanity is like a colony of ants living in a discarded styrofoam cooler filled with a rotting picnic.
Are the ants capable of understanding the origin of the cooler, it’s true purpose, or how it was made?
    No.
Our (my) holiest day is trash day.
    Tuesdays.

Happy Trash Day to all at Climate Etc.!

    • What!!!????……..My trash is collected on a Tuesday as well. Perhaps there are more of us.

Are we all Styrofoamian’s, on Tuesdays, in which case, what do we call the Wednesday trash believers? What is their purpose in life? why are they here? who represents them? are they aggressive? should we fear them like we fear everything else, such as the elusive AGW?

What mysteries await us, far from our computer keyboards…….

      OK, I’ll stop now.

Merry Christmas fellow Styrofoamian, may the strength of Syrofoamasaglgaard be ever present in your trash.

    • David Springer

Next year at Festivus you two are definitely going to be mentioned in the Airing of Grievances ceremony.

Happy and successful New Year (under new management) to everybody.

I confess I did not vote for Trump. My impression was that he was 90% ego and 10% intellect. So far, he is putting those 10% to an excellent use. Happy New Year, President Elect!

  20. Merry Xmas to you too Judith!
Thanks for all your and hard work and incredible information. You make a difference and inspire.
Have a great Xmas and Safe NY.
    Jamie. 🎄

  21. Thank you, Judith, for doing what you do best, making people think. The world would be a bleak place without your intellect and encouragement.

I have learned a lot from this site, not about climate change, but the need to questioning everything.

And Merry Christmas to everyone, alarmist’s and heretics alike. Were it not for debate, the human race would achieve nothing.

    But remember, Santa’s a Scotsman.

    Ho Ho McHo!!!

  22. Thanks and my best wishes to all for the new year,

  23. Merry Christmas to Judith and all Denizens. Happy New Year begins on Jan 20, 2017 this season.

  26. Judith,

Merry Christmas to you too. And thank you for doing so much to save humanity from stupidity and the dangers of group-think. I hope you can keep it up.

  27. Merry Christmas Denizens! Thank-you for all your work Judith!!

  28. All the best for Christmas and the new year to all the Denizens. For one day, at least, let there be peace and goodwill on Climate Etc.

  29. May the Christmas Star shine upon you all.

May the New Year bring you the cheer you deserve.

May you fortunes prosper; you connect with those who mean the most to you; and the world continue to grow in the humanity one shares with one another.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and, Thank you for making our world a better place.

  30. To ALL:
Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! Happy Festivus!

And a very Happy New Year!

  31. As I wait for a safe hour to assist Santa for the benefit of my two granddaughters, I wish Merry Christmas, and a happy holiday season to Judith and all who pass this way.

  32. As previously reported, Santa has had a few problems with water ingress in the run up to Xmas. Another one of his little helpers just popped in to ask me to apologise to anybody who received their presents late. Santa was too busy mopping up to set off on his rounds on schedule.

The BBC reports that an expert in Arctic temperatures:

Was confident that [Santa’s] sled would cope with the conditions. Santa is most likely overdressed though. Maybe in the future we’ll see him in a light jacket or plastic mac.

  33. Happy Xmas, Judy and all at Climate etc.
    Happy Xmas, Jim Hunt.
Many thanks to ristvan who helps elevate the quality of discussion here.
Not the only one but I have really enjoyed his comments this year.
My Christmas wish is for a cooling 2017, a La Niña and the chance to get two or three up on JCH (after the warmest 2016).
May all your wishes come true,up or down, to everyone this new year.

  34. A very peaceful Christmas to Judy and all who visit here.

  35. Thank you for all your hard work and common sense. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  36. The very merriest Christmas to all around the globe of all faiths and the best of New Years.

  37. THERE IS NO SUCH WORD AS “X”MAS! WHEN YOU TAKE CHRIST OUT OF CHRISTMAS, IT’S JUST ANOTHER DAY!

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

    • No such word as lol either. When you take the laugh out load out of lol all you get is letters. Same with AFAIK, as far as I know those are just a bunch of letters. A semi-colon with a latter paragraph symbol is not really winking, but that’s all I’m doing today on Christmas ; )

    • Sounds like you are lacking in a Christian education.

X is for the first letter in the Greek word for Christ.

  38. Merry Christmas, Judith.

  39. Hi Judith…Merry Christmas.I am a physics/science teacher at a high school in Toronto and I have several questions about climate change that I wouldn’t mind asking you. If you don’t mind I would really appreciate your input. What is the best forum to ask these questions?

    • You are on it, Gavin. 832,000 comments and counting, with all sides well represented. Far and away the best climate debate site in the world.

    • Hi Gavin, send me an email, and I can try to direct you to the appropriate resources. curryja at eas.gatech.edu

    • Mr. K.
Perhaps worth re-writing next 10-20 years
politics and trade – after Brexit, Trump, French and German elections.
      climate change effects – negligible
manned landing on Mars – 2025 by far to optimistic

  40. Happy holidays to all!

  41. David L. Hagen

    Blessed Christmas Judith curryja
Thanks for all your work in providing an open forum to explore climate and related issues while upholding the scientific method. Thanks for exploring the uncertainties involved, and how little we know of how much humans are influencing our climate. It is fascinating to understand better how Earth’s numerous feedbacks provide a climate that is “very good”. It is encouraging to understand large are our resources of stored solar energy (aka fossil fuels) provided for us to grow our economies while we develop sustainable fuels and energy resources.

  42. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Dr Curry. From Stanford, Palo Alto where my wife and I are visiting family.

  43. My Uncle was a priest who before Christmas meals would say the prayer and this is what he’d say:

“Good food, good meat, good God let’s eat!”

He was sort of a fat Santa Claus kind of a priest whose chin always seemed to absorb the grease of that meat while he chewed like a professional eater.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

  44. Hi Judith, I have enjoyed your blog, and have distributed pieces all around Australia.
Happy Christmas to you as well.

I have one question: I have read the book “Vapor Tiger” by Adrian Vance. It attempts to answer a lot of the most basic questions about CO2, including the quantity of CO2 in the atmosphere and its effect, but I have never seen his name or the book mentioned in any of the blogs, or the comments.

Do you know this book and has it created any comment or discussion? Do you agree with his science?

    Regards
    Ian Storey
    NSW, Australia

    • HI Ian, I haven’t heard of this book. I took a quick look at amazon. apparently it is clearly written, but short and rather polemical. there seems to be some technical/scientific problems with the book.

    • Ian

For some reason I got onto one of Adrian’s email lists.

this is what he says about himself

      January 8, 2016 at 10:24 am

“To read part of my publishing record go to: http://www.worldcat.org and there you will see listings for 598 of the more than 800 publications I have done for major publishers, but even the latter figure does not include my fiction, which I do under a pseudonym as it is for adults.”

He is heavy on polemics on all sorts of subject and in general is not a sceptic I would want to try to defend. I do not think I have ever seen him discussed here.

  45. Merry Xmas and a happy New Year, lots of thanks also.

  46. Happy Holidays & all the best for 2017 to you and your loved ones, Judith!

  47. David Springer

Christmas came early this year. Early in the morning on November 9th.

  48. Thanks very much Judith and Tony. Maybe there are some problems with Vapor Tiger, but at least Vance tries to provide some plausible evidence as to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, and the relationship of manmade CO2 to the total CO2. Most writers seem to rely on the EPA statements, which doesnt seem to me to be evidence.

“at least Vance tries to provide some plausible evidence as to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere”
No evidence, only guessing! Vance like the meteorologists seem to think that the atmosphere expresses ‘weight’ as ‘pressure’. Archimedes demonstrated that ‘atmosphere expresses no weight’ in 271bc! Surface atmospheric pressure is approximately PI times the columnar atmospheric mass times the acceleration of Earth’s gravitational force on that mass!. Pressure is a scalar value, not a vector value, as is ‘weight’.

  49. Thank you Dr. Curry.
Hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  50. I hope you all had a great Christmas (and a belated Merry Christmas to all). And I hope all of you have a great New Year.

Those especially to Dr. Curry who has lent a Voice of Reason to Climate Science. Thank you!

  51. Happy Holidays Judith. I appreciate all that you do and what you have taught me.

  52. Every good wish for the coming year, Judith, and all the denizens.

  53. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from me to Prof Curry and all the denizens. I look forward to visiting in 2017.

    Thank you all.
